There's so much stuff in Illuminatus! that he's bound to get you somewhere. I can't recall ever hearing anyone say they were bored by Wilson, but I've known more than a few people who went completely bipolar reading his books. _________________ There are many here among us who feel that life is a joke and for you we sing this final song for you there is no hope sayonara suicide hari kari kamikaze you won't see another evening Goodbye http://www.theophanyrecords.com |

^^ Sad, but absolutely true. Some of the nuttiest New Age / Heaven's Gate space cadets I've ever known had a copy of Illumunatus! proudly displayed somewhere very conspicuously, like on the living room coffee table, like it were the f-ing Bible or something. Of course, maybe they were already nuts. The fact is that, just like LSD, if you are already a little unstable, reading Bob's books will fnord push you over the edge. _________________ There are many here among us who feel that life is a joke and for you we sing this final song for you there is no hope sayonara suicide hari kari kamikaze you won't see another evening Goodbye http://www.theophanyrecords.com |

You are getting very sleepy. Your eyes are getting heavy. When I count backwards from 5 and snap my fingers you will suddenly be overwhelmed by the urge to hear "The Final Countdown" by Europe. _________________ There are many here among us who feel that life is a joke and for you we sing this final song for you there is no hope sayonara suicide hari kari kamikaze you won't see another evening Goodbye http://www.theophanyrecords.com |

Finally got a copy of Cosmic Trigger, after so many months!
| Quote: |
| This seemed to me the greatest Discordian joke ever, since Illuminatus, as I may not have mentioned before, is the most overtly anarchistic novel of the century. Shea and I quite seriously defined our purpose, when writing it, as trying to do to the State what Voltaire did to the Church - to reduce it to an object of contempt among educated people. Ken Campbell's adaptation was totally faithful to this nihilistic spirit and contained long unexpurgated speeches from the novel explaining at sometimes tedious length just why everything government does is always wrong. The audiences didn't mind this pedantic lecturing because it was well integrated into a kaleidescope of humour, suspense, and plenty of sex (more simulated blow jobs than any drama in history, I believe). The thought of having this totally subversive ritual staged under the patronage of H.M. the Queen, Elizabeth II, was nectar and ambrosia to me. |
Wilson had a cameo walk on role in the british theatre run of Illuminatus in which he appeared "bare ass naked" chanting "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the Law", unfortunately continually upstaged by a goat who kept sneezing, all the while under the patronage of Her Majesty the Queen. Bob said "...and I will never stop wondering how much of this was programmed by Crowley before I was even born".

| My god, what a bummer, i had no idea until just now. This guy was really smart and i admired him greatly even tho i don't always see his points the way he did, the guy will be remembered here forever. He was so devoted to his studies and it's to bad he had to suffer for so long before he died. What i loved the most about him is his attitude and as Schindler's Pissed mentioned dry sense of humour and cynisism towards everything, and as i have always been saying that this is the kind of guy i'd love to have as a father that i never had. |

This guy had such a monumental sense of wit that I feel like calling Mike Scalzi the R. A. Wilson of metal. _________________ "They said in school - practice makes perfect, and nobody's perfect so stop practising." - Steven Wright |

^^ I don't know the mightly Slough very well, but there's a very high likelihood that Mr. S is a longtime fan of Mr. W. _________________ There are many here among us who feel that life is a joke and for you we sing this final song for you there is no hope sayonara suicide hari kari kamikaze you won't see another evening Goodbye http://www.theophanyrecords.com |
